When I first heard of the term “Fam Trips” I immediately thought, “Wow! As a travel agent I get discount trips for my family!”

Once I completed the Travel Agent online training, I realized I was completely misguided.

Fam trips “Familiarization trips” are wildly discounted vacations to some of the top resorts in the world often sponsored by the Resorts, Cruise Ships, Hotel owners, Tourist and Travel Boards around the world to credentialed travel professionals.

The Fam trips provides the opportunity for Travel Agents to become familiar with the resort or cruise ship, its amenities and dining options to name a few.

Keep in mind that if there is a slow season it’s better to have someone there paying something than to have empty rooms! And if these individuals are travel professionals who can then promote the facility based on their wonderful experiences…that’s great!

Based on my initial information gathering, there are a ton of Fam trips available on a weekly basis for many places around the world.

The one thing you should know is Fam trips are not really vacations. It’s more of a working vacation as you have to partake in various activities set up by the host. So, you may have to come back to fully enjoy the facility.

As a travel professional now, I must take at least one Fam trip per year. I’m sure I will take one by the end of this year and probably more!
